Chasing the Coffee Bandits
After watching the film Chef, we became very intrigued by food trucks. I remember them being all the rage in New York around the time I left (2011), although I think that popularity is still incomparable to the craze in L.A. So considering Singapore’s love for jumping on trend bandwagons, it struck us as strange that the food-truck trend had not caught on in Singapore. So the question is: where are all the food trucks in Singapore?

Forget the Bucket List [Reblogged]
This is an article I’m sharing from the blog of a wonderful couple, Brad & Mesi, whom I got to know while volunteering in Peru. It really resonated with me, because just a few weeks ago, I tried my hand at coming up with a bucket list, and I really wasn’t very happy with it because everything on my list seemed to either come from some Tripadvisor/Lonely Planet Top 10 compilation or was an aggregate of other people’s unfulfilled dreams and wishes. Most items involved oft-overhyped “must-see” tourist hotspots like “Have a picnic at the Eiffel Tower” that honestly proved to be rather uninspiring and underwhelming. So reading this was a really refreshing…

Why we love Pangdemonium
One of the reasons I dreaded leaving New York for Singapore was because of Broadway. I love musicals and theatre, and had many wonderful experiences being blown away by the incredible sets, stellar acting and thoughtful productions that provided endless fodder for discussion between my friends and I. Coming back home to a spew of local productions that thrived on the idea of generating laughter through slapstick humor was not something that I was particularly looking forward to. The truth was that our local scene lacked that punch that defined the magic that was Broadway and the West End – plays that delve into issues that actually matter. Well, thank god for…

Awesome Apps to Help You Travel Like a Local
The school year is finally winding down, and that can only mean one thing: THE HOLIDAYS ARE COMING. ET and I are super excited to be going on an Epic Europe Adventure this November with our families. Our itinerary will cover Barcelona, Amsterdam, London, Iceland and finally Munich in about a month. One might think that the natural inclination when travelling with parents is to just hop on a tour bus and let the guide do the thinking. But we have a strong aversion to “checklist tourism” i.e. going on big tours where we are just herded from one tourist attraction to another. ET likes to wander around, sit at cafes…

Best Cafes to Work at in Singapore (Part 1)
UPDATE: We have a NEW list of awesome cafes in Singapore that are conducive for working and studying! Find the link at the end of this post! It’s that time of the year. The marking season has descended upon us, which explains the strange phenomenon of grown adults all over the island clutching a heap of papers and weeping. Don’t judge us please. To ease the pain a little, ET and I retreat to cafes where we can seek some solace in flat whites or indulge in a plate of truffle fries as we battle the monstrosity of stress-induced gibberish and horrific handwriting. If you’re a teacher like us, or you need somewhere conducive…

How Travel has Defined My Life
On the eve of my 26th birthday, ET asked me what are the 25 most significant moments of my life. The question really caught me off-guard, and I paused for quite a while before answering, because really, how do you even begin answering a question like that?

The Beauty of Disconnection
I honestly never thought I’d say this, but we just had one of our best holidays in Bintan. It wasn’t the accommodation – we stayed in one of the SAF Cempaka Villas at the Bintan Lagoon Resort that was comfy and had all the basic amenities but was honestly nothing to shout about. It wasn’t the food – our best meal was the BBQ we prepared on the first night that involved cooking copious amounts of meat, seafood and corn which proceeded to be our source of protein for the next two days. Carbs were mainly instant noodles and sweet potatoes and the one meal that we did eat…

ETSY Explores: Jalan Riang
This little street nestled in the midst of a sleepy Serangoon enclave is a wonderful addition to a growing number of hippie neighbourhood haunts. Despite its relative inaccessibility and hosting only 5 restaurants, it is evident that Jalan Riang is no longer a secret as it attracts a healthy number of patrons even on a regular weekend night. We made several trips to check out what the different restaurants offer, so here’s a little guide to our new favourite haunt!

A Gastrorgasmic Food Guide to New York
New York holds a special place in our hearts because it has been the setting for many life-changing events – me going to college, us getting engaged, and most notably, ET’s induction into the wonderful land of sashimi. (Yes, he didn’t eat sashimi for the first 27 years of his life.) This list is special to us because it is OUR personal list of favourite restaurants that we’ve tried, tested, can’t stop thinking about and make a point to visit every time we go back to the city. So whether you’re visiting the Big Apple for the first time or tenth, you must check out our gastrorgasmic food guide to New York!

The Chava Resort Review
We ended up at The Chava Resort by a stroke of bad luck when our original accommodation plans in Phuket failed. To be honest, we were feeling a little disillusioned with the hotels in Phuket at that point, so The Chava was a godsend.
