Increasingly, more cafes seem to be realising this and we’re really excited to share with you a BIGGER and BETTER list of the best cafes to work at in Singapore!

Drury Lane Cafe

This isn’t a new kid on the block, but it’s definitely still a noteworthy one. I was intrigued to check out its hype and motivated by how it was also one of the merchants featured on the Entertainer. Located in the heart of Tanjong Pagar and easily accessible from Chinatown mrt, it’s a popular cafe to work at with its cushioned crate booths, ample power points and free wifi! Portions here are generous and they certainly pride themselves on serving excellent coffee. To top that off, service is prompt and always comes with a smile! For a quieter environment, opt to work on the second floor.

La Marelle

Definitely come to La Marelle if you’re in need of a mood booster, because its whimsical and colourful decor will do just that. The comfy designer seats allow for many hours of work to be done comfortably, and it helps that despite being located in the bustling ethnic enclave of Arab Street, it is actually provides a quiet respite and is a great place to people-watch when you need that occasional break from work. It definitely helps that the powerpoints are located next to the windows!

Brunches Cafe

Don’t be fooled into thinking that Brunches Cafe only serves brunch! If you’re a fan of eclectic vintage and love novelty, this is the perfect cafe for you. With its hanging birdhouse lamps, vintage posters and car booth seats, it’s probably the most uniquely designed cafe to work at. It seems to already be a popular spot for doing work because there were several other teachers marking alongside us, and I would attribute it to the lunch sets which have great value for money, the wonderful coffee and friendly staff! Don’t miss out on their rose latte!

96 Rangoon Road

Jewel Cafe and Bar

Despite being just across the road from Brunches Cafe, Jewel Cafe and Bar has a markedly different ambience with its chic industrial design. Yet it still manages to be very cozy and conducive. There are numerous powerpoint outlets and the wifi connection was strong and stable throughout the time we were there. The main draw of this cafe? Its excellent chilli crab linguine and atas coffee that made work SO. MUCH. BETTER. To top that off, you can also use the Entertainer to get a 1-for-1 deal for main courses. So much win!

129 Rangoon Road
Open daily except Monday from 0900-2230

The Coffee Daily

This little cafe is right in my ‘hood and I was fooled for the longest time by its facade as I thought the seating space was very limited. Imagine my surprise when I walked in one day and found that there were not only multiple tables and chairs, but also a homely sofa area and power points at almost every table! It is often lauded for its great coffee and desserts. As with most cafes in the Serangoon Gardens area, it is pretty quiet and provides a fantastic environment for a very conducive afternoon of work. You can also get 1 for 1 main course deals here with the Entertainer!

75 Brighton Crescent
Open daily
Weekdays 1200 – 2230 (Fridays till 2330)
Weekends 0930 – 2230
Nearest MRT: Lorong Chuan (But you should definitely take a bus to Serangoon Gardens)

Open Book Cafe

If there was ever a speakeasy for cafes, this would qualify as one. Hidden at the back of the Grassroots Book Store on Keong Saik Street, you wouldn’t even know it existed unless you wandered into the bookstore or peered hard enough into its interior. Yet this is possibly one of the best places to get work done because of how quiet and obscure it is. Amidst soft cushions and light ambient music, you can choose to indulge in fragrant tea like I did, or opt for their delicious homemade bread while working! The only downside – no wifi. But I feel compelled to include it anyway because I really enjoyed doing my work there.

Envy Coffee

Bright walls, inspirational quotes with a touch of Scandinavian homeliness is what we should envy of the staff who work at Envy Coffee. A hidden gem in Buona Vista, it’s easily accessible from the One North MRT although it did take me a while to find the Nexus@One-North building. I suspect its relative obscurity is why it’s such a great cafe to work or study at! The service here was also excellent and they have really affordable lunch sets and amazing coffee.

Library @ Orchard

Yes, yes, I know that the library is obviously not a cafe. But if you didn’t realise this by now, Library@Orchard is one of the most conducive (and popular!) spots to do work at in town. True to its nature of being a library, the only sounds you can hear above the pin drop silence is the random shuffling of books and people trying to tread quietly. What I love about this library is its design-centric features and the many nooks and crannies that provide you the privacy to indulge in your work. The “Share” area even has sunken alcoves for you to store your bags! Not to mention the fact that you’re surrounded by inspiration and a wealth of knowledge. The designer chairs are also very comfortable. However, if you want a seat at the large table, you’ll probably have to come early to chope your place. With easy access to wifi and powerpoints aplenty, this is definitely a place to consider if you can trade your coffee for water.
